The stitch
Sashiko is a running stitch — a grid of small, even stitches that reinforce fabric and look incredible in contrast thread.
What you need
needle sashiko needle, longer than standard thread white or indigo, heavy weight fabric denim or canvas, 8–14 oz pattern asanoha, seigaiha, or a free grid
How to start
Mark a grid, load several stitches on the needle at once, and pull even. The gaps between stitches are the whole art.
